What is a shard box? A shard box is a decorative, handmade trinket box featuring a fragment (shard) of antique Chinese porcelain-- often from the Ming or Qing Dynasty-- set into the lid. Created from 1983-1985 onwards, these boxes repurposed porcelain broken during the Cultural Revolution (1966–1976), transforming salvaged, destroyed antiques into unique, collectible art.
